๐ผ SICMF 2025 โ Closing Concert
๐๏ธ 13 July 2025 | ๐ 16:30 |๐ Endler Hall, Stellenbosch University
The Festival Symphony Orchestra is made up of the student participants of the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival mentored by the professional faculty. An exciting opportunity for young musicians to perform as part of an orchestra and work with a world-renowned, international conductor.
The final concert of the 2025 Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival brings together the full Festival Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Antony Hermus, who makes his debut with the festival this year.
The programme begins with Fountain of Youth by Julia Wolfe โ a punchy and vibrant overture composed in 2019 that sets an energetic tone for the afternoon.
Bram van Sambeek, widely recognised as one of todayโs most inventive and expressive bassoonists, joins the orchestra for Nino Rotaโs Bassoon Concerto. Rota, famed for his film scores (The Godfather, Romeo and Juliet), brings that same sense of melody and drama to this rarely heard gem.
To close, the orchestra performs Brahmsโs Symphony No. 1 โ a work of sweeping emotion, intensity and resolution, and a powerful way to bring this 20th anniversary edition of the festival to a close.
