The Cologne-based double bassist and composer Stefan Schönegg dedicates his work to reduction - listening, lingering, shaping sound as a process. For this edition of "NICA live", he invites cellist Judith Hamann (Australia/Berlin) and clarinettist Michael Thieke (Berlin/Rome) - two personalities who move with great sensitivity in the border region of composition, improvisation and sound research and with whom Schönegg has worked together in the past as part of his Enso ensembles. At the heart of this first encounter in this line-up is a radically decelerated musical dialog. Together, the three musicians develop a fragile, breathing sound architecture in which barely noticeable movements create great depth.
Schönegg's music deliberately dispenses with event density in favor of an intense presence in the now. Small impulses, subtle microtonal shadings, lingering in resonances - the trio invites you to listen carefully and allow yourself to be drawn into the moment - an invitation to listen together.
