Death at Cross Plains
A RECONSTRUCTION TRAGEDY :
Walking Tour led by Quinton Kirk.
On the 155th anniversary of the injustice of William Luke, Toney Cliff, Caesar Fredrick, William Hall, and Berry Harris. Quinton Kirk will lead the tour about their story. This story includes a runaway mule, a gun fight, and an unfair hearing that led to the lynching of these men right here in Piedmont, formerly known as Cross Plains. The tour will begin at the Southern Railroad Depot Museum, which is also where this tragedy began. This tour is an effort to spread awareness of the historical events that occurred 155 years ago and how far we have come as a town since this event unfolded.
When: Friday, July 11, 2025, 6:30pm
Where: Start and end tour at Southern Railroad Depot Museum (130 North Center Ave., Piedmont, AL. 36272)
Duration: Approximately 1.5 mile walking and will loop back to the Railroad Depot Museum. Tour will take about 1.5 to 2 hours( bring your water bottle).
This tour will cost $5 per person as a donation to the Piedmont Historical Society to help preserve and teach the history of our town.
