Michelle Catania, M.S. is the green industry outreach coordinator for The Morton Arboretum. She provides both technical and non-technical talks & workshops to green industry professionals. Communicating the best management practices to practitioners is driven by her desire to help trees thrive in urban environments. When she started at Morton as soil science research assistant she co-authored several scientific journal articles on how urban soils impact urban trees. Michelle currently provides science-based, soil-focused expertise for the North Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District as an associate director, is serving a 2-year elected term as Research Director for the Illinois Arborist Association, and is the communications lead for the Urban Tree Growth & Longevity working group.
