Robert Schumann Manfred, Op. 115 - Overture
Johannes Brahms Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77
Robert Schumann Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 97, "Rhenish"
Brahms' Violin Concerto, premiered in 1878, is one of the most celebrated concertos in the violin repertoire. Incredibly demanding, it pushes the technical limits of the instrument with challenging double stops, bold octave leaps, and intricate arpeggios. Brahms infuses the work with an almost symphonic orchestral density, making the violin a true partner of the tutti rather than a mere soloist.
Schumannโs Third Symphony complements this concerto while engaging in a dialogue with tradition. Here, Schumann delivers a powerful five-movement symphony, drawing inspiration from Beethovenโs innovations to push the boundaries of classical form.
