The Hang Gliding Paragliding Association of Atlantic Canada (HPAAC) and the local pilots of Prince Edward Island would like to invite you to the 2025 HPAAC Festival of Flight.
The event will be held on Prince Edward Island. Join local pilots and fellow Atlantic pilots for a fun-filled long weekend of flying, socializing and chasing the winds. All pilots, friends and family are welcome. PG, HG, PPG, PPC, Speedwing pilots, Ultralight.... Free flight, motor flight, tow flights, heck, if you can flap your arms and fly we would love to have you join us!
Flight Events include:
Free flight: (weather conditions permitting), coastal ridge soaring. Under special conditions, there is potential of going XC from two of our main coastal sites. Yes, you read that correctly, XC from a coastal ridge soaring site. A rare opportunity not found at most coastal sites. We are blessed with sites that have traditional coastal soaring ridges that offer regular, very smooth buoyant thermal lift from a shallow bay that regularly gives 1000' plus altitude over a 50' coastal ridge.
Dune flying: (weather conditions providing), we have several non-official coastal dune sites that are fun to play on with the potential of short sustainable ridge soaring flights. (Please note: it is not permitted to fly (including ridge soaring) in any of our National Parks on PEI).
Towing flights: we are in the process of arranging for professional towing operations to provide payin/payout tow flights from a grass airfield and/or beaches.
PPG/PPC: demonstrations, morning, and evenings with daily (weather conditions permitting).
Competitions:
Free Flight competition(non-official): Including drop target, spot landing, longest flight of the weekend, highest flight of the weekend, furthest free flight XC, Camp Fire - last man standing (reigning champion Tim Parker).
Motor assisted flight (non-official): Including drop target, spot landing, longest flight of the weekend, highest flight of the weekend, furthest flight XC, Camp Fire - last man standing (reigning champion Tim Parker).
Accommodations: There are literally hundreds of accommodations to rent on PEI. We encourage you to book your accommodations as soon as possible as the Island is a busy place in the summer. Once registered, we can send you a list of suggested accommodations but cannot guarantee availability.
Campfire Socials: Daily campfires starting at dusk. All are welcome! If you play a musical instrument, it is mandatory that you bring it....
Pizza Social: Saturday, August 31st, evening we will be having a Pizza Social around the campfire. We will have a selection of different pizzas from Stratford Pizza Corner. Price will be decided once we get an idea of who wants pizza. If you are interested in attending the pizza social Saturday evening but not interested in pizza, we will have a bbq available for you to grill. Bring your own food to grill and sides. BYOB permitted.
PILOT REGISTRATION:
All pilots flying free flight on our main sites will be required to be a member of HPAC. Non-Developed sites don't require a HPAC membership but it is encouraged.
