Powhiri for newcomers to Whangārei

Te Huinga hapu collective and Whangarei District Council invite newcomers and our multicultural communities to a powhiri (welcoming ceremony) at Whangarei Terenga Paraoa Marae.

Our Welcoming Communities programme brings together communities to make the places we love more welcoming for everyone.

This pōwhiri will provide an opportunity to experience a Māori formal welcome with tikanga (customs) and manaakitanga (hospitality).

The Powhiri ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm, followed by shared kai (food) from 6:30 pm. Please bring a plate of food to share.
