Set during the golden age of 19th-century whaling, Paul Magid’s gripping new biography brings to life the extraordinary adventures of Benjamin Clough—a young seaman who became a legend after single-handedly retaking the whaling ship Sharon from mutineers in 1842. Pursuing the Leviathan traces Clough’s harrowing feat and his decades-long command of voyages that spanned the Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic.
Presented by Edgartown Books in collaboration with the Vineyard Preservation Trust, this event takes place at the historic Carnegie, where island history and maritime heritage come together in celebration of bold storytelling and heroic legacy.
