Politics & Spirituality of Thomas Merton: Priest, Prophet, Activist

Thomas Merton was a Trappist monk, a priest, and a writer around the time of the Second Vatican Council. He was also a trouble maker. That trouble was frequently aimed at the injustices in society and government. One thing is certain: his political opinions were rooted in his Christian faith. In light of present, political and religious realities, perhaps he can help us to navigate our times as we explore his spirituality and his convictions

Over the course of our time together, we invite you to spend some time reflecting in quiet activities such as; going for a walk or coloring, we will pray together, listen together, share in conversation, and unpack some of Merton's lessons applied to our own lives.

Presenter: Fr. Peter Pearson has lived in two Benedictine monasteries and founded an emergent, ecumenical Benedictine community. He's long been a reader of all things Merton and a seeker of God too. Peter holds an M. Div. from Saint Vincent Seminary and a Th. D. from the Providence School of Theology. He's also studied theology at Saint John's School of Theology in Brighton, MA; Georgetown University in Washington, DC; and General Theological Seminary in New York City.
