1 Day Touring Kayak Clinic (Deer Island) - Intro to Currents

We are very excited to offer this new 1-day clinic for folks looking to learn more about currents, how they affect your sea or touring kayak, and how to operate in a little bit more dynamic water. This clinic will help prepare you for the current portion of Paddle Canada's Level 2 course.

Clinic location - Deer Island.

Time 8:30am-5:00pm

Our 1-day Intro to Currents Clinic will introduce:

Theory

What causes tidal currents.
Tidal forecasting

On Water Practical

How to visually read lines of current and flow.
Speed, Angle, Timing and Position.
How to use currents strategically for touring and play.
How to control your kayak in tidal streams.
Rescues in tidal streams.

Participant requirements:

Must have 13' + sea kayak with bulkheads front and back (Rentals available at extra cost)
Must have Transport Canada or ULC-approved PFD (Rentals available at extra cost)
Must have a paddle and a spare paddle. (Rentals available at extra cost)
Must have the Transport Canada required safety gear. (Rentals available at extra cost)
Must have watersports helmet (Rentals available at extra cost)
Must have a neoprene cockpit skirt.
Must have wetsuit or drysuit.
