FRINGE: Miss Plymley Recollects at Ludlow Assembly Rooms

Written and performed by Alison Utting. Based on the journals of Katherine Plymley. Join Miss Katherine Plymley for tea in 1816 as she shares memories of her busy and rewarding life. Katherine was a contemporary of Jane Austen and although they never met, they moved in the same circles and experienced the same world events.
From the French Revolution to the American war; the advances of the Industrial Revolution to medical breakthroughs; from her lifelong home in Longnor to Bath and London, Katherine kept journals of her experiences. Through her words witness the first steam engine, a rowdy visit to Drury Lane, and the long hard fight to abolish slavery – a campaign with which the Plymley family was closely involved. Through her journals we meet William Wilberforce, Thomas Clarkson, Olaudah Equiano, Thomas Telford, the Ladies of Llangollen, the Darwins, the Wedgwoods, and many more.
Step back in time for an hour and immerse yourself in Georgian and Regency life as it was really experienced by a fascinating Shropshire woman.
