9 to 5: The Musical is a comedy musical based on the 1980 film of the same name, featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick. The story follows three female coworkers—Violet, Judy, and Doralee—who are fed up with their sexist, egotistical boss, Franklin Hart. After fantasizing about ways to get revenge, they accidentally find themselves in control of the office and begin implementing progressive changes that improve the workplace.
