Imaginative Journaling: Capturing Stories for Future Generations

UPDATE 6/19/2025: This event is fully booked at this time. Thank you for your interest!
Most people go through their day-to-day lives without much thought about future readers of their diaries or journals. Journals capture stories of an otherwise average life—not necessarily a memoir but important enough to the individual to write down. Evidence of how we live today and what life is like right now can be captivating and useful to future generations. Creating something interesting and beautiful makes the process of journaling more enjoyable and engaging.
CCHS is hosting a workshop about journals and their useful nature in collecting stories and doing research. Laurie Seamans will lead a session on getting started by creating a possible theme with writing prompts and discussion around unique ways to journal that reflect your personal story. A hands-on workshop geared toward personalizing your journal with collage and altered books techniques will follow. Workshop materials are included. However, if you have small items, papers, or photographs you wish to use for your journal, feel free to bring them and we can discuss and work through processes for incorporating them.
The cost for this workshop is $10 and preregistration is required. Your admission price includes all materials and light refreshments. Please register online (www.cortlandhistory.org) or by contacting CCHS at 607-756-6071.
Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your place!
