Intriguing Invertebrates

Did you know that animals like us that have a spine are actually a bit of an oddity in nature? As it turns out, of all the species of animals in the entire world, less than 5% actually have backbones. All the rest - from tiny microscopic organisms up to giant deep-sea isopods and the colossal squid - do just fine without a spine! The world of invertebrates is vast, but we'd love to share some knowledge about the ones we have around here on the Peninsula. When you come to the Discovery Center we'll teach you what it really means to be considered "spineless".
