King Lear is ready to retire and must divide his kingdom amongst his three daughters: Goneril, Regan, and the his best beloved Cordelia. But first, Lear demands that each daughter make an overt and public display of their love before they receive their inheritance. Goneril and Regan make beautiful (and deceitful) proclamations of adoration. But Cordelia refuses, insisting that her love is more honest and real than any false speeches. Embarrassed and furious, Lear disowns Cordelia.

What ensues is Lear’s downfall from King to madman in a tangled web of brutality, blindness, betrayal, and too-late revelations.

Performed under the stars.
