Paper Making Workshop with Jen Maffett

Eastport Arts Center will offer a two-part Paper Making course for youth and adults on Tuesdays, June 24 and July 1, 1-3 pm. Participants will learn the basics of paper-making, experimenting with different raw materials and textures.

Students ages 12 and up are welcome; students 8 and up may attend with an adult helper. All materials are included. Each student (or young student/adult team) will have their own work station, including hand molds, deckles, felts and raw material with which to produce as many as 10 sheets per session.

One of Maffett’s favorite mediums to work with is paper. An Eastport Gallery artist, she uses cut paper, folded paper, stitched paper and creates imaginatively with recycled papers … especially seed catalogs. She has been making her own paper and teaching paper-making since the 1990s when her daughter was in elementary school and her first lesson in paper-making was created to help kids learn about recycling.

Fees for the two two-hour sessions are $50/person or for a team of adult and child. A special 'support EAC' registration, $60 fee, is available for those who would like to help the Arts Center sustain its slate of programming for all. A sliding fee scale is available by request. Space is limited and registration, by email to d29ya3Nob3BzIHwgZWFzdHBvcnRhcnRzY2VudGVyICEgb3Jn or via the EAC site (link below) is requested. The session has been supported by the Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Downeast Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
