Historical Marker Unveiling, The Ford Mansion

Join GOHS for the historical marker unveiling for the Ford Mansion (now Community Bank, 245 Main Street) on Wednesday, August 13, at 1pm.

The Ford Mansion marker, once home to abolitionist Eliakim Reed Ford, recognizes Oneonta as a reputed stop on the Underground Railroad. The marker will stand at the former location of the stone mansion, which was torn down in 1929, near the corner of Ford Avenue and Main Street, where Community Bank now stands.

David Schumann, descendent of the Ford family, will be joining us for this ceremony, along with Harry Bradshaw Matthews, who will speak to the mansion’s connection to the Underground Railroad.

All historical marker unveilings are free and open to the public and press.

This historical marker was funded by the Schumann Foundation.
