Fancy Hats Out of Not So Fancy Materials

Once upon a time everyone wore hats. And if you couldn't afford a milliner, by the 19th century there were lots of how to books and magazines around to help you make your own at home. Even into the 1950s women's magazines contained hat patterns. Not just knitted caps but structured formal hats.

Come learn a little bit about the history of making hats, at home or in a shop. Then make your own fancy hat out of common materials. Using place mats, left over Christmas craft supplies, clearance flowers and anything else we scrounge up, we'll make a fancy hat. Think Easter Parade or Kentucky Derby. Let you imagination run wild. Look at ordinary things differently. Have fun!!!!

Examples of placemats hats will be posted periodically in the comments.
