Chris Haddox will present an engaging program focused on the rich folk music scene that was active in the southern West Virginia coalfields from the 1920s - 1940s. In addition to live performances of representative songs from the area, this 'edutainment' session will include discussion on various folk music collectors who were active in West Virginia, as well as stories, pictures and videos of Chris' work tracking down living relatives of the musicians.
Chris Haddox is a professor of Sustainable Design at West Virginia University. A native of Logan, West Virginia, Chris has been researching the folk music landscape of southern West Virginia for the past several decades. He presents his work through his website, presentations, and performances and is currently at work on a short documentary film about the music of southern West Virginia.
