6-piece ensemble MANDENG GROOVE, led by Guinean-Australian multi-instrumentalist Amadou Kalissa celebrate the release of their debut LP Conakry.
A trip to Guinea in 2024 by these Melbourne based musicians resulted in an album being recorded, and now with long anticipation, finally released worldwide.
Recorded out of the family-run home studio in Conakry, Guinea, the album is an exciting collaboration that features traditional Manding music, performed by local master musicians from Conakry, with the jazzy-funky flavours of the Melbourne-based group.
From upbeat drum-driven songs that make you want to boogie, to poetic and spiritual ‘sonic love letters’ that make you sway with delight, Conakry captures the beauty of Manding music and culture, while adding contemporary instrumentation and production.
Mandeng Groove invites you to celebrate this cross-continental creation. Their special live show is centered on the music of the kora, (traditional Manding harp) but expect to hear many other Manding instruments performed too.
Mandeng Groove will be joined by very special guests CHIKCHIKA.
