Bug Days of Summer Night Hike

Celebrate the “Bug Days of Summer” with a fun and fascinating night hike at Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge! As the sun dips below the trees, the refuge comes alive with the hum, chirp, and flutter of countless insects. Join our Educator for an evening exploration of the incredible invertebrates that thrive after dark.

On this approximately 1-mile guided hike, we’ll search for fireflies, katydids, crickets, moths, beetles, spiders, and more. Along the way, you’ll learn about the vital roles these tiny creatures play in our ecosystems—from pollination to decomposition—and how they adapt to life in the nighttime world.

Perfect for bug lovers of all ages, this hike is a great way to experience Cedar Run in a new light (or lack thereof)! Bring your flashlight, curiosity, and a sense of adventure as we celebrate the little things that truly rule the summer nights.

This program begins at 8:30pm and runs 1hr+ depending on our findings, not to exceed 90 minutes. Ages 8+ please. $15/adult, $10/child. Members save 10%! 20 participants maximum. Advanced registration required.

Not a member, but want to be? Check out our membership page.

All proceeds go towards supporting Cedar Run’s mission of the preservation and protection of New Jersey’s wildlife and habitats through education, conservation and rehabilitation. When you attend a Cedar Run event, you make a direct impact in our community!
