MMT is partnering with Hibbing Community Education to present Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, the beloved musical adaptation of the play Green Grow the Lilacs.
Publisher Concord Theatricals describes Oklahoma! as follows: βIn a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.β
Oklahoma! premiered on Broadway in 1943 and ran for 2,212 performances before it closed in 1948. The musical went on several other national tours and most recently returned to Broadway in 2019, winning a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
