Set Design Workshop

There’s more to creating theater than acting, singing and dancing. The sets, the lights, the costumes, the props, and the makeup all contribute to the story being told. In this workshop, we will focus on scenic design. There are so many factors that go into a good set design—from the size of the stage to “how do I build that?” We will discuss ‘big picture’ scenic design concepts such as how to read a script for design elements and how to collaborate with an artistic team to create a unified vision for a production. We will also go deep and learn the fundamental, practical elements of set design and how to create designs with the resources available. Using an assigned script, participants will create a set design for a scene that they will present to the class as if we were an artistic team in a pre-production meeting.

Set Design Instructor: Melissa Vickery-Bareford

Set Design Workshop Class Dates: June 17, 24, July 1, 15
