Free. Outdoors. Fresh. | Yerba Buena Gardens Festival
The extraordinary acoustic ensemble Trío Guadalevín reveals the hidden cultural currents connecting Mexico to the Mediterranean, from the son huasteco and son jarocho of Mexico to Afro-Oaxacan music, Sephardic Jewish melodies, Spanish fandangos and xácaras, historic Arab-Andalusian song, Italian ciaccona and Moroccan shabia. Exploring the musical dialogue between Indigenous, European and African cultures that define Latin American identity, Guadalevín weaves a gorgeous tapestry of music, languages, culture, history and geography. The ensemble features string wizard and early music specialist Gus Denhard, Abel Rocha, a string maestro, singer and folklorist from Mexico City, and Chicano-Italian percussionist Antonio Gómez. Over the past decade the triumvirate has honed a repertoire steeped in archival research but shaped by their contemporary identities and interests.
