The Apocrypha: Origins, Import and Use Among Lutherans with Dr. John Genter

While not of the same authoritative status as our canonical Old Testament, the books known as the Apocrypha have been a treasured possession of the Church from very early times. They were widely read and cited by Lutherans from the time of Luther himself to C. F. W. Walther and beyond. This workshop offers an overview of this history and makes a case for a renewed engagement with the Apocrypha in Lutheran congregations today. The topics covered in this workshop include the origins and content of the Apocrypha, early Christian views on the status of these books and their usage among Lutherans.
