Prior to moving to Texas in 1998, Jim traveled extensively and worked on several engineering projects in 15 states and the Middle East. His love of the outdoors and wildlife originated in the Appalachian mountains in north central Pennsylvania, where he grew up and spent most of his teenage summers as a counselor at Boy Scout camps. Later, after a stint in the U.S. Navy, Jim took up photography to record his travels. He has visited 48 U.S. states, 8 Canadian Provinces, and 19 countries.
Jim admits he wasnβt a serious bird watcher until he moved to Bedford, Texas. He became involved in Fort Worth Audubon Society (FWAS) in 1999 after searching for information about Mississippi Kites, a raptor that was nesting above his home in Bedford. He was soon involved in fieldtrips, bird counts, and conservation projects sponsored by FWAS. Jim joined the chapterβs board of directors in 2001 and is currently the Education Chair.
