Made right before the United States entered WWII, Chaplin plays the dual role of a kind barber who is mistaken for a tyrannical dictator. Taking direct aim at fascism and the Nazi regime, Chaplin employs a potent blend of slapstick mixed with political satire. THE GREAT DICTATOR is a masterful piece of cinema from a trailblazer of the film industry, culminating in an impassioned speech that still rings true today.
