Learn about the challenges facing urban forests, how to make maple syrup and more during the second annual Tree Symposium at Spiegel Grove, an arboretum and presidential site.
The event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with check-in beginning at 8 a.m. in the auditorium of the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, located at Spiegel Grove.
The registration fees are $40 per person for non-members, $35 per person for Hayes Presidential members and $22 for students. Lunch is included.

The schedule of sessions is:
• 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. – Check-in, coffee and donuts
• 9 to 9:15 a.m. – Welcome by Christie Weininger, Hayes Presidential Library & Museums executive director.
• 9:15 to 10 a.m. – Tapping and Making Maple Syrup, presented by Deb Nofzinger, Sandusky County Park District program supervisor.
• 10 to 10:45 a.m. – Our Changing Climate, presented by Ross Ellet, meteorologist for 13ABC.
• 11 a.m. to noon – Tree Tour of Spiegel Grove by John Havens, Hayes Presidential building and grounds superintendent.
• Noon to 1 p.m. – Lunch
• 1 to 1:45 p.m. – Diseases and Pests affecting Urban Forests, presented by Thomas deHaas, Ohio State University Extension, Erie County.
• 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. – Native Trees in Urban Forests presented by Stephanie Miller, regional urban forester for Northwest Ohio.
• 2:30 p.m. - Conclusion by John Havens
