Our guest speaker is Rosslyn Macphail, who will talk about a distant relative, Captain John Orr (1790-1879). Captain Orr was the superintendent of the Scottish Naval and Military Academy for thirty-three years from 1831, having fought with the Black Watch in the Peninsular War and who was wounded at the Battle of Waterloo.
Rosslyn Macphail is the great great granddaughter of Captain John Orr. She discovered John's campaign diary, which he wrote while fighting with the Black Watch in the Peninsular War, in a cabin trunk containing family papers, and decided to find out more about him.
