Lizards need love, too! So do snakes, turtles, frogs, toads and salamanders. You may not like them and think they’re creepy, but Prairie State Park staff team members invite guests to learn more at their Hug a Herp Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21.
Prairie State Park staff and volunteers will help dispel myths and rumors about reptiles and amphibians, while letting visitors see them up close and touch them if they’re so inclined. These animals are often persecuted simply due to a lack of knowledge and positive experiences. Not brave enough to touch one? Then you can make an amphibian or reptile craft to take home instead.
Due to the unique and rare diversity of life preserved at Prairie State Park, pets are not allowed on park trails except for Path of the Earth People and Path of the Sky People trails. Bison graze freely in the park and this regulation protects both guests and their pets. Pets are welcome in the park’s campground and picnic area, but must follow Missouri State Parks’ pet rules. This applies to all types of pets except service animals assisting guests with disabilities.
This program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
