Why Butoh Festival brings insights into Butoh with performances and a weekend workshop.
We believe there are as many different ways of Butoh as the number of Butoh artists and practitioners both dead and alive.
Butoh will never die.
Its seeds are always born and keep blooming.
The first edition of Why Butoh Festival takes place at Barker teatteri 28-31 August 2025.
There are evening performances on 28, 29 and 30.8 at 19:00.
Each evening consists of two works.
28.8 Tashi Iwaoka & Santeri Vikström
29.8 Minja Mertanen & Emilia Liimatainen
30.8 Yuri Nagaoka & Seisaku
Two Butoh artists from Japan, Seisaku and Yuri Nagaoka give a workshop on 29-31 August.
The festival closes with an open work-in-progress that the public is invited to see how they work with the workshop participants towards a presentation.
