At the heart of Bayreuth Baroque 2025 lies Francesco Cavalli's “Pompeo Magno” – a dazzling tale of love, betrayal, desire, and power, brought to life by artistic director Max Emanuel Cencic.
You can look forward to a captivating rediscovery from the early history of opera, first performed in Venice in 1666. “Pompeo Magno” is realized by an outstanding cast of singers such as Mariana Flores (Issicratea), Valerio Contaldo Tenor (Mitridate), Nicolò Balducci (Sesto), Sophie Junker - soprano (Giulia) and Valer Sabadus (Scipione Servilio).
The Cappella Mediterranea performs under the musical direction of Leonardo García Alarcón – specialists in the music of the Italian “Seicento”.
The premiere will take place on September 4 in the festive atmosphere of the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth. Additional performances will be held on September 6, 9, 12, and 14.
