Fukari Tribe Backpacking Adventure: Thousand Island Lake Trail

Are you ready to challenge yourself, escape the daily grind, meet incredible people, and experience something truly epic? Fukari Tribe invites you on a 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip through the stunning Ansel Adams Wilderness via the Thousand Island Lake Trail (Shadow Creek & River Trail). This trek is a favorite among our tribe, and we’re stoked to share it with you!

What to Expect

During this trip, you’ll have the opportunity to forage, journal, read, practice yoga, meditate, connect, recharge, share, laugh, learn, and relax. And the best part? No cell service! Time to truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature.

New to backpacking? Feeling unsure or even a little scared? I get it—I’ve been there too! This is a learning experience for all of us, and we’ll support each other along the way.

Gear & Preparation

No need to break the bank—check out used gear options on OfferUp, eBay, REI Garage Sale, and Amazon’s used section. You can also borrow or share gear like JetBoils and water filters within the group. If you need help with gear or planning, reach out!

The Tricky Part: Permits!

We’ll need wilderness permits from the Inyo National Forest, which are required year-round for overnight trips in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. To secure a permit, we’ll need to act fast!

Permit Details & How to Secure One:
• Entry Point: Select “River Trail” when applying.
• Reservations Open: July 31, 2025, at 7 AM on Recreation.gov.
• Fees:
• $6.00 non-refundable reservation fee per permit
• $5.00 per person recreation fee
• Trailhead: Agnew Meadows (access requires a shuttle from Mammoth Mountain Ski Area).
• Restrictions:
• No campfires at Thousand Island Lake (or other lakes above 10,000 ft).
• Bear-proof food storage is mandatory.

Permit Sign-Up Meet-Up!

Let’s team up to secure our permits! On July 31st at 6:30 AM, we’ll meet at Culture Coffee (we’ll also have a separate invite for this meetup), submit our permit requests together, and manifest an epic trip.

📍 Meet-Up Location: 127 Almond Ave, Modesto.
⏰ Time: 4:45am (it’s a 5+ hour drive)
