The Sequential Intercept Mapping (SIM) Model illustrates how individuals with mental health and substance use disorders come into contact with and move through the criminal justice system. SIM enables communities to identify available resources and service gaps at each "intercept" point and to create tailored local action plans. The SIM mapping process brings together leaders across various agencies and systems to collaboratively devise strategies to divert people with mental health and substance use disorders away from the justice system and into treatment.
