Jose Gobbo is a Brazilian jazz guitarist who moved to Iowa City in 2011 to pursue his master's degree in jazz performance. He quickly became a leader in the city's musical scene and released his debut album "ZĂŠ" in 2013. He completed his doctoral degree (DMA) in Illinois in 2020, and has since performed extensively with various groups such as the Brad Wheeler Quartet, Chip Stephens Organ Trio, and The House Trio. Jose has also been recognized for his talent, being a finalist at Chicago's Luminarts Jazz Competition and a semi-finalist at Milwaukee's Wilson Center Guitar Competition. He has worked as a producer and performer in two Brazilian tours with Jim Pisano and Damani Phillips, and has been featured as a guest artist at several universities and institutions. Jose is also an experienced teacher, having worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Jazz Department at The University of Iowa and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and currently teaching at Eastern Illinois University and the Arthur School District.
