Following the introduction to the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation with Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett, Chief of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation Jennifer Bone, and stories shared by Residential School Survivors, the Orange Shirt Walk will begin at the Fusion Credit Union Stage and Event Tents area when speeches are complete.

❗️IMPORTANT❗️ Dress for the WARM WEATHER, wear good shoes, remember to bring water, and prepare for a long walk to Brandon's Residential School site located down Wokiksuye Canku (Remembrance Road)/Grand Valley Road. This walk is over 3km long to the site and another 3km walk back, so approximately an hour walk to the site and another hour back. Be prepared to be outside for up to 3 hours on your feet.

There will also be a Brandon Transit bus with limited space available and an easy access bus for Elders.

The Orange Shirt Walk will leave the Riverbank Discovery Centre grounds, head West on Kirkcaldy Drive, and cross 18th Street North onto Wokiksuye Canku (Remembrance Road)/Grand Valley Road. The walk will go past the Brandon Research Station and turn up the hill towards the original site of Brandon's Residential School.

This year, all participants are being asked to gather at the site with Sioux Valley Dakota Nation before re-tracing the route and returning to the Riverbank for a Feast and Healing by the River celebration!

?FOR THOSE WITH YOUNG CHILDREN AND ELDERS?, we will be offering a very short Orange Shirt Walk using the paved trails at the Riverbank Discovery Center. The main Orange Shirt Walk will leave and this one will begin, being led by an Elder. This walk is aimed at families with very young children, those with mobility aids, and elders that may find the 6km walk difficult. We encourage everyone that is able to take part in the main Orange Shirt Walk to the Brandon Residential School site if they are able.

Please follow the direction of Brandon Police Service traffic officers, Search and Rescue, and keep an eye out for our TRW2023 volunteers stationed along the road with water bottles and trash bags available and helping direct the walk in a safe way.

Please always be aware of your surroundings and traffic.
