Destash Baltimore 2020: A Craft Swap

Bring your unloved fabric, patterns and yarn to the Great Baltimore Destash.

Here's how it works: Donate your fabric and 'shop' what other donors bring that day. Don't worry about having to take your leftovers home! We'll donate/recycle what's left for you.

If donating, please arrive at noon so we may get your items sorted and organized.

If just 'shopping' you'll need to buy your $15 ticket in cash at the door the day of event. We will not have change, so please bring an exact amount.

Download a label HERE for your fabric, yarn and attach to your donated stash. You'll need to measure your yardage / weigh your yarn before it's donated. We'll also have some labels available for you at the door. And, volunteers on hand to help with sorting and measuring.

For patterns, make note if it is incomplete (maybe you cut it at some point and a piece is missing). We'll have patterns organized by size range on various tables.

Why the price increase?

We had sixty fantastic swappers in 2018 and just needed more space. That comes with an increased cost. But, we'll also have space for socializing and some ice breakers.

Is there a minimum cut?

YES! Fat quarters or jelly rolls for quilting and ONE YARD for garment fabric. This isn't a place for scraps.

What is there to do while waiting?

We will have a space this year for ice breakers so we can socialize and get to know each other better. Plus, all the patterns will go in this area so you can do a little browsing before the main event.

Can I sell my items?

Can I just 'shop'? I'm a beginner and don't have anything to donate??

Yes! You'll need to purchase a $15 admission at the door the day of event. But, if you bring even just one item, your ticket is $10.

I just want to donate because I'm clearing out a relative's stash/ will never sew again / can't attend the day of. Is that an option?

Yes! Please contact me to organize drop off / pick up.

I can't make it on Saturday but I have items to donate. Can I still give them to you?

Yes! Please contact me to organize drop off / pick up.

What can I donate?

Fabric: Quilting, fashion, home dec. BUT, for quilting fabric, minium is a fat quarter. For garment and home decor, the minimum is ONE YARD.  This is not for scraps, but enough to make a garment.

Patterns: Paper patterns only please for adults, kids, whatever you have. No PDF print outs, please.

Yarn: Yes! We do prefer natural fiber blend yarns as acrylic yarns are readily available and harder to donate/recycle.

Books: Yes! Bring your craft related books to donate to the swap.

Is there a minimum yardage?

Fat Quarters and one yard for fashion fabric.

Can I bring, knitting needles, scissors, rulers, thread, etc?

Yes. We'll have a miscellany table set up.

How should I prep my fabric or yarn?

Please attach a label (download here) to all donated yardage. You'll need to know the width and length of the fabric.  All fabric will be 'contained' with rubber bands that we'll have at the event. So, please bring it neatly folded and labeled.

How will the swap portion work?

There will be rounds of selection based on the number of attendees and amount donated.

Do you need any volunteers?

Yes! I could use about ten volunteers to come at 11:30 am to help with set up, checking and breakdown. We will also need about five volunteers to deliver extra fabric, books and patterns to various locations. If you're available, please let me know. Thank you!

What happens to the leftovers?

Fabric, tools, supplies, patterns will be donated to Scrap-B'more, MICA, Baltimore Chapter ASG and the Baltimore Design School.  What they don't accept will be recycled or donated to Goodwill. Books will go to the non profit, The Maryland Book Bank in Baltimore.

Will there be food?

There won't be food onsite. But, there are several restaurants in short driving distance including Pepe's, Johnny's, Petit Louis, Bonjour Bakery and Whole Goods.

I'm not from Baltimore, can I still come?

Of course! The more the merrier!
