Simmons Farm Mozzarella Cheese Making Class
About this Event
Come enjoy an evening in a fun and engaging conversational Mozzarella cheese making class with Simmons Farms resident cheese maker, Karla Simmons. Your evening adventure will begin with a chat about life and the farm, wine and cheese tasting, a tour of the goat parlor where you will meet the ladies who make the milk, see the equipment we use and the space where we milk the animals, hear about the farms history and then you will then spend the rest of the afternoon in our dairy. You will be taught how to make curds, stretch and form the curds into a beautiful mozzarella ball, it is a fun and rewarding hands on experience. In addition to getting cheesy, you will be given the opportunity to make homemade fresh butter using our cream and simple equipment you likely already have in your kitchen.
The sampling consists of some of the other cheeses the Farm produces and also a sampling of local wine from Newport and/or Greenvale Vineyards, beers from RIs Revival Brewery, Rejects or Ragged Island or seltzers/sodas from RIs Yacht Club Soda. The class with wrap up when everybody has a delicious ball of Mozzarella, a 1/4lb of butter to bring home and enjoy and a gift bag containing a kit with instructions, rennet and citric acid for you to make more mozzarella at home. We look forward to seeing you at the farm and sharing our passion with you.
