SFNOMA Hike @ Point Pinole
Join us on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline Park! This will be a 4.62-mile social hike for beginners along Point Pinole Shoreline with great views of the Bay Area. Please bring your camera to capture the beautiful scenery and native wildlife. We will also be talking about the historical aspect of the dynamite factory there and its connection to the city.
Meeting spot:
Please arrive by 10:15 am at the Point Pinole parking lot; we will be departing on the hike at 10:30 am at the shuttle benches.
What to bring:
- Brown bag snacks (for lunch stop)
- Water
- Wear comfortable warm clothes (layers)
- Camera
- Smiles and good vibes!
Shoes:
Wear comfortable shoes. We will mostly be on paved road, but there will be dirt and rocky trails, too.
Parking:
There is a parking lot fee of $3. (When checkpoint is open)
What is the difficulty level:
The hike level is rated at easy to light medium - this hike is for the beginner hikers.
History:
Point Pinole opened to the public in 1973 after a long process of acquiring the property from Bethlehem Steel. Bethlehem had acquired the land in the early 1960s from Atlas Powder Co., one of several firms that had manufactured gunpowder and dynamite there for almost 100 years.
Dogs:
Dogs are allowed at $2 park fee (when the checkpoint is open).
Please keep your dog on a leash and bring extra bags to clean up your dogs droppings.
