About the Speaker

Colleen Windham is a CPA and a Senior Client Success Manager & Compliance Specialist at Independent Retirement. She is passionate about educating clients, financial advisors, and other CPAs to give them the tools needed to choose successful retirement plan solutions.

In her role, she engages with her clients on a regular basis to provide consulting on complex administration topics such as compliance testing, Form 5500 rules, missed deferral opportunities, late deposits, and the pros/cons of potential plan design changes. In addition, she reviews the technical work of other administrators. When not working with clients, she has created and presented in-firm technical training sessions to her colleagues and has previously taught at the New Mexico Society of CPAs, the ASPPA Spring National Conference, and the ASPPA Annual Conference.

She graduated with an MBA in 2015 from the University of New Mexico and entered the public accounting industry. She became a licensed CPA and audited privately-held companies, nonprofit organizations, and employee benefit plans, before moving into third-party administration in 2018.

She holds multiple credentials from the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA) including the Certified Pension Consultant (CPC), Qualified Pension Administrator (QPA), Cash Balance Specialist (CBS), Qualified 401(k) Consultant (QKC), Qualified 401(k) Administrator (QKA), and the Tax-Exempt and Governmental Plan Consultant (TGPC) credential from the National Tax-Deferred Savings Association.

She serves as Co-Chair of ARA’s Thrive Committee, which focuses on 1:1 mentorship within the retirement plan industry. Outside of work, Colleen enjoys pickleball, scuba diving, and traveling the world with her husband, Keith.
