About this Event
This International Overdose Awareness Day, we gather in Elmira—and around the world—as one big family to take action. Overdose doesn’t just take lives. It leaves lasting wounds across families, schools, workplaces, and entire communities. But it also reminds us how deeply we’re connected—and how powerful we can be when we show up for each other.
Let’s expand what “family” means: shared responsibility, shared hope, and shared action.
August 31, we do more than remember—we organize, speak out, and take real steps toward a future free from overdose.
Activities include:
- Free Narcan training
- Substance use and overdose education
- Support group introductions
- Local harm reduction resources
- Memorial space for reflection
- Music, art, and storytelling
- Light refreshments and community gathering
- Giveaways and info from local partners
