SomeClowns Bring Their Wild, Tender Chaos to Newburgh for OC Arts Month

Clowns are coming. But not those clowns.

SomeClowns brings brilliant, absurd, heart-forward comedy to Newburgh for one night only.

About this Event

This August, audiences are in for something unexpected, unhinged, and unforgettable. SomeClowns, a NYC-based ensemble of physical comedians, bring their brilliantly absurd, family-friendly comedy show to The Ellis on August 16 at 7:30 PM. The performance is part of Orange County Arts Month.

At the core of SomeClowns is a deceptively simple mission: show up and be completely ridiculous—truthfully, physically, wholeheartedly—for the people who need it most: the audience. Drawing from the traditions of European clown, vaudeville, and physical theater, the troupe uses the tiniest mask in the world—the clown nose—to uncover their performers’ comic essence.

But this is no circus clown act. There are no pies in faces or honking horns. Instead, SomeClowns trades in moments of vulnerability, chaos, mischief, and joy. It’s a celebration of failure, persistence, confusion, and love—with just enough danger that something might actually break.

From arguing over imaginary rules to falling in love with the audience to (hopefully not) setting something on fire, the clowns of SomeClowns stretch the bounds of logic and language to bring audiences back to something essential: the joy of being fully, foolishly human.

Formed during the pandemic by a group of performers desperate to keep making people laugh—even in isolation—SomeClowns is a reminder of what live performance can do: connect, disarm, and delight.
