About this Event

Join the Old-Growth Forest Network in an effort to identify, measure and photograph important features of old forests. This community science project will engage participants in developing forest measurement skills, help set a baseline for long term ecological monitoring and support the continued protection of these rare forests.

This project will incorporate the use of iNaturalist and provide training in specialized equipment to delineate and map old trees, woody debris such as fallen logs, layering of forest structure, and dead standing trees called snags within the older parts of public forests. These important features support biodiversity not typically found in younger forests.

Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, and wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking through the forest. This event will take place rain or shine.

Please download the iNaturalist classic app which will enable you to upload to the Network’s iNaturalist project (project link to be shared before the event date).
