Fields and Forest: Landscape Evolution - field trip to Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve

Guide: Roxanne Swann, Audubon Society of SW PA's Plant Center Coordinator at Beechwood Farms

Was that forest always there? What the landscape look like before all the trees? The Fields and Forest presentation answers those questions, providing an introduction to plants and animals that coexist and interact in Western Pa's meadows, and how these meadows develop into forests. There will be a 30 minute indoor class, followed by a short hike to experience these ecosystems at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve.

The program will be led by Roxanne Swann, Audubon Society of SW PA's Plant Center Coordinator at Beechwood Farms. The class will begin at 10 am. A business meeting in the Trillium Room will follow the hike. Parking is ample at Beechwood Farms, 614 Dorseyville Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, about a 20 minute drive from Highland Park.

This program is part of the "Highland Park Garden Club Presents..." , a series of monthly programs designed to entertain and educate about gardening-related topics. Programs are free to HPGC members. Nonmembers are welcome to attend with an donation through Eventbrite ($10 suggested unless noted otherwise). All are welcome to join the club. Annual dues are $20. Membership information can be found on the club website: www.hpgcpgh.org.
