Power of The Jury Box

A discussion on diversity and jury service with keynote speaker William C Snowden.

About this Event

Have you ever tossed aside a jury summons without a second thought? Or perhaps you have shown up for jury service hoping not to be selected?

Have you ever noticed the lack of diversity in the jury box during a trial and wondered how that impacts justice?

In Louisiana, the conversation about our jury system has reached a critical juncture. A recent ruling declared non-unanimous juries unconstitutional, yet our state continues to deny retrials for those who may have been wrongfully convicted under this flawed system. This highlights the urgent need to not only fix the system but to diversify the jury box, ensuring that justice is fair and equitable for all.

Join The Mwalimu & Malkia Collective on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Community Book Center, 2523 Bayou Rd for Power of The Jury Box.

Keynote speaker Attorney William C. Snowden, director of The Juror Project andprofessor at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, offers a view into a rarely examined aspect of the criminal justice system: the jury box and its important relationship to our community. He will be joined by Keith C. Smith, a respected New Orleans business owner who will share his personal experience as a juror in a criminal trial in Orleans Parish.
