Performances by the Young Property Developers and Nicky Bray, followed by a Q&A with the songwriters discussing community and collaboration

About this Event

How do comedy and music relate to each other? That's not the setup for a joke - I really want to know!

Hosted by Groundbird - the songwriting pseudonym of Northumbria University academic Richard O'Brien - this is the second in a series of events where some of the North East's top musicians will be in conversation, discussing how they think about the songs they write.

This event features The Young Property Developers and Nicky Bray, who are both hilarious in different ways. Paul Stewart's spiky, satirical punk songs take a dry look at modern life and action movies, while Nicky Bray has written dozens of skilful genre pastiches in her years hosting the 'Tower of Song' event series encouraging original songwriting in Newcastle and Leeds.

Each act will play for about 30 minutes each, followed by an onstage Q&A discussion.

Doors will be at 5pm, with an opening song from Groundbird around 5:15, The Young Property Developers on around 5:30 and Nicky Bray at 6:15, with the Q&A starting at 7.

This event is the first in a series of four now generously funded by a North Shields Cultural Quarter grant from North Tyneside Council.
