Hiking the Trans-Catalina Trail: What to Know Before You Go
About this Event
Want to plan a multi-day hike along one of Southern California’s most iconic coastal trails? Join us for an informative evening all about the Trans-Catalina Trail (TCT) - a challenging yet breathtaking 38.5-mile trek that spans the length of Catalina Island, complete with sweeping ocean views, remote campsites, bison sightings, and coastal solitude.
Led by Krista Muscarella, a staff member with the Sierra Club's Wilderness Travel Course (WTC), this session will cover:
- Trail overview and elevation breakdown
- How to book ferry rides and reserve campsites
- Packing tips and gear recs for Catalina’s unique terrain
- Water sources and resupply logistics
- Trip itinerary ideas - from 3-day fastpacks to 5-day scenic treks
- Island-specific challenges (heat, wildlife, trail signage, etc.)
Whether you're planning your first TCT hike or just curious about what it takes, this is your chance to ask questions and get practical advice from someone who’s been there - multiple times!
You'll also learn about WTC’s 10-week immersive course, which combines classroom learning and hands-on weekend adventures to teach core backpacking and wilderness travel skills.
