David, a retired art instructor, offers a lecture style drawing course to teach the basics: linear perspective, composition, and tone.

About this Event

If you have been craving an in-depth class to learn drawing basics, this is the class for YOU! Students will learn via lecture, demonstrations, and homework.

Join accomplished artist and instructor, David Dickinson, at The Local Art Gallery Thursday mornings this fall for an Introductory Drawing Class. This class will meet four times on Thursday mornings: 9/11, 9/18, 9/25, 10/2 from 10:30am-12pm. (10/9 reserved as instructor make up day, if needed.)

Transform a two-dimensional existence into something with depth. This introductory drawing course will cover problem solving with linear perspective and then move on to composition, sighting, analytical line drawing of the still life using line weight and finally, tonal rendering. The goal is to become visually literate, develop a set of skills and allow the pencil to be an extension of the brain. After a 40 year career in teaching, David believes everyone can be taught to draw. The rest is up to you … along with desire, diligence and dedication.

Pablo Picasso once said, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”

Deadline to signup: September 1, 2025. Limited seating.

$100, includes supplies. Supply kit includes pencil, charcoal, graphite, kneaded eraser kit, a hand sharpener, a transparent 18” ruler, and sketching / rendering papers approx. 18x24. Ages: 14+
