Cold Wax and Oil Techniques for Emerging Artists by Sheryl Hatcher
About this Event
This workshop is designed for emerging, intermediate, and advanced artists who want to explore the tools and techniques of using cold wax medium with oil paint. Participants will learn how to mix a cold wax palette and experiment with various applications and mark-making tools.
Cold wax painting is a method that involves mixing cold wax medium with oil paint to create thick, textured layers with a soft, matte finish. The wax makes the paint dry faster and allows you to build up or scrape back layers for interesting effects. You can apply the mixture with palette knives, brushes, or rollers. It’s great for creating depth, texture, and expressive surfaces in both abstract and realistic work.
Artist Sheryl Hatcher will lead this three-hour workshop, which will provide essential materials. Participants are encouraged to bring their basic oil paints and brushes.
Registration for the workshop is $69.00, which includes a $30 materials fee for items you will take home with you! The course is limited to 10 participants.
About the Instructor: Hatcher works in expressive, layered media to tell honest, heart-warming stories about people, place, and everyday moments. Her art feels personal, authentic, and vibrantly alive—an invitation to step into her world and meet its characters.
