About this Event

About this event

In this class you will make a pair of brass, copper, or steel powder coated earrings.

Powder coating is a quick and easy way to add color to metal as well as provide a protective coating. You’ll choose the shape and color for your earrings, we’ll teach you how to make them, and you’ll get to enjoy a fun, hands-on experience!

All materials will be supplied. Please wear appropriate clothing for working around heat and sharp materials. Cotton or denim pants, closed toed shoes, and something to tie your hair back if needed. PPE is provided by CCM but feel free to bring your own eye and breathing protection (N95 mask or better is needed when working with powder coat.)

Sterling silver ear hooks (nickel-free) will be provided. If you have a silver allergy and would like steel or another metal as an alternative, please reach out to me prior to class and I will do my best to accommodate.

This class will last about an hour.

Please note: this class is for ages 18 and up!

Course Outline

This course will begin by reviewing the tools and processes used in powder coating for jewelry or small metal projects. We will then pick out the earrings we want to make and think about the color we want to use. Next, we will prepare the surface of the earrings and place them on hooks to be warmed prior to beginning the powder coat process. Then we will walk through the magic of powder coating and then prep your earrings for wearing!

Very excited to meet you and share my knowledge about jewelry with you! I am a silversmith and enamelist as well as a registered gemologist. I have been making jewelry for a few years now and really like to play with different ways of incorporating color and metal. There is so much to learn and every instructor comes with new and unique ways of doing things so I am always taking classes and continuing my education in this field. I mostly work in copper and silver but recently did my first piece using scrap gold and repurposed diamonds.
